In my bedroom, I had an old cabinet with standard hinged doors. They took up too much space, especially in my small room, and opened outward. So, I planned to replace it with sliding doors. I hired a carpenter to do the job, and he informed me of the process he is going to follow. I have shared the detailed steps on how to convert hinged cabinet doors to sliding below.
How Do You Convert Hinged Cabinet Doors to Sliding Doors?
Remove all the hinges and unscrew the existing cabinet doors.
Now, clean the interior surfaces where the rails will be installed.
Patch the previous hinge marks and sand smooth with wood filler.
Take exact measurements of the cabinet opening's width and height.
With a hacksaw, trim the tracks to the proper length.
Screw the sliding door top and bottom tracks into the cabinet frame.
Attach sliding rollers to each door's upper border and bottom guides.
Adjust the height and alignment of both doors after they have been slotted in.
Finally, install handles to make opening and closing simple.
The sliding doors on my cabinet now glide smoothly and take up less space. In fact, it made the room look spacious and more modern.
