Turn off the circuit breaker to your furnace to avoid shock.
Install a transfer switch between the furnace and the circuit breaker.
You must add an outlet to the breaker panel for connecting the generator.
Now, cut the wire connecting the furnace to the circuit breaker.
Install a plug in the furnace to connect it to the new outlet.
Plug in the furnace, reset the breaker, and check that the furnace works properly.
Finally, connect the generator to the furnace using an outdoor extension cord.
