Hi Shobha. I am an electrical engineer and have worked on a lot of capacitors during my time in college and even now when I am working. So, I have a good idea about how to connect capacitor to ceiling fan. Here, I have shared the process of wiring a 3-in-1 ceiling fan capacitor. This is a lengthy process and needs expert knowledge, so don’t indulge yourself and ask a field expert to cater to it.
How to Connect Capacitor to a Ceiling Fan?
Here is the method you can follow:
Begin by turning off the main breaker household DB to cut off the primary supply line.
Connect the yellow/green ground wire to the household grounding system.
Next, remove the previously installed capacitor in the fan by cutting the grey and red wires.
Repeat the process for the pull chain switch, i.e. disconnect the grey, brown, black and purple wires from the capacitor to the pull chain switch and ceiling fan reverse switch.
Then, you need to connect the new 3-in-1 capacitor by connecting the grey wire to the 1st slot in the pull chain switch and the 2nd grey from the capacitor to the middle terminal of the reverse switch.
Join the brown and purple wire to the 2nd and 3rd slots respectively in the pull chain switch.
Next, connect the orange and pink wires from the fan to the reverse switch slots 1 and 3.
Join the white wire as neutral from the main board to the switch, middle slot of the reverse switch and light kit.
Join the black wire as live (line or phase) to the L slot of the pull chain switch. An additional joint through the wire nut to the blue wire from the fan to the built-in light kit.
Now, switch on the main distribution board to check the ceiling fan through the reverse switch (used to change the fan direction of rotation), pull the chain switch for different speeds and ON/OFF control.
This is how to connect capacitor in ceiling fan. I hope it helps.

My brother told me that I should connect a capacitor to my fan when I told him about the recurring speed issues in my fan. He told me that connecting a capacitor to a ceiling fan can enhance the fan's performance and extend its lifespan. I called up an electrician for my ceiling fan capacitor connection. But if you have some knowledge about electrical connections, you can do it yourself too. I will explain the method to you for your help.
How to Connect Capacitor to Fan?
You can follow the steps I tell you below to understand how capacitor is connected in ceiling fan.
- Identify Capacitor Wires:
After turning off the power supply to the ceiling fan, you will have to locate the three wires connected to the ceiling fan motor. These wires are typically labelled as "common" (black), "starting" (yellow or blue), and "running" (red).
- Connect Common Wire:
Then you will have to connect the black wire from the ceiling fan motor to the common terminal on the capacitor.
- Connect Starting Wire:
Now, connect the yellow or blue wire from the ceiling fan motor to the starting terminal on the capacitor.
- Connect Running Wire:
After that, connect the red wire from the ceiling fan motor to the running terminal on the capacitor.
- Secure Connections:
Just for safety, double-check all wire connections to ensure they are tight and secure.
Once you have completed the connections and checked for any loose wires, turn on the power supply to the ceiling fan at the circuit breaker panel.
I hope I was able to help you understand how to connect capacitor to ceiling fan.

Hey,
I will tell you about an incident where my fan started to make a weird humming sound. I called an electrician to fix it for me. He told me in the summer season, many need their fans to be repaired. A few of the most common reasons are blown capacitors, faulty internal windings, low power supply, or jam bearings. I learned how to connect fan capacitor from him.
Let me tell you something about how to connect capacitor in ceiling fan. It is not complicated. It can be done by an amateur. Though, you will need a few tools to complete the process. Before you start, you need to switch off the main power supply of your house. Just switch off the main circuit breaker in the home distribution board.

How to connect a capacitor in a ceiling fan?Remove the old capacitor from the fan by cutting the wires.
Connect the red/live wire of the fan to the first terminal of the capacitor.
Then connect the blue wire of the fan to the second terminal of the capacitor.
Put a wire nut over both the wires.
Put an electric tap over the nut
Insert the wires in the wire connector.
Next on how to connect the capacitor in ceiling fan, you need to connect neutral/ black wire from the fan to the secondary slot of the wire connector.
