Last week, my AC was not cooling properly. So, I called a technician to check, and he explained that the fan had collected too much dust. He then began the cleaning process, where he removed debris and later cleaned the dust completely. I observed the entire procedure carefully, and from that, I understood how to clean AC fan properly. For you, I have also shared the steps below.

How to Clean an AC Blower Fan?

  1. The technician first removed the access panel with a screwdriver to reach the blower motor and wiring.

  2. He used a vacuum cleaner to suck out all the dust and debris from around the motor carefully.

  3. With a soft brush, he cleaned the outside of the motor and then used compressed air to blow out the fine dust from inside.

  4. The fan blades were wiped with a cloth dipped in mild detergent and then dried with a clean cloth to avoid rust.

  5. He checked the motor for damage and applied a few drops of oil in the lubrication points to keep it smooth.

  6. Finally, he fixed the motor back, closed the panel, and switched on the AC to check the airflow. The cooling worked perfectly after that.

This is how the technician cleaned the AC fan. It’s a task best done by a professional, so don’t try it on your own. Hope this helps you.

Then, unscrew the blower housing and open the air conditioner's outdoor unit, which stores the blower wheel. Step 2: Find the blower wheel and motor Find the blower wheel and take out any obstructions. Step 3: Use Compressed Air For removing the accumulated dirt around the wheel and for cleaning air conditioner blower fan, use a can of compressed air and spray the wheel. Step 4: Remove Debris With Vacuum The dust and debris exiting the filthy blower wheel are vacuumed up. Use a small, curved brush if your vacuum cleaner doesn't have a brush attachment. When an AC’s blower is dirty, the performance of the AC declines. I understood this after I got my AC checked. At first, I suspected low gas in my AC, but then the technician told me it was the dirty AC blower. I wasn’t aware of how to clean air conditioner blower. So, he explained it to me.

How to Clean AC Blower Fan?

  • Gather tools:

He asked me to first get a screwdriver or wrench, a sturdy vacuum cleaner, a bristled brush (soft for fins, stiff for blades), and some cleaning solution.

  • Locate the blower:

Then he taught me how to locate the access panel to my AC's inner sanctum. It's usually hidden behind a grill or panel on the indoor unit. Then he taught me to unscrew it to find the dust-laden blower fan within.

  • Turn off the power

: The next step he taught me was turning off the power to the AC unit and disconnecting the wiring harness feeding the fan motor.

  • Dust the blower:

Then he asked me how to use my vacuum cleaner to suck up the loose dust and gently scrub the fan blades and housing, coaxing out any stubborn grime.

  • Clean the blower:

He said that I would have to dip my brush in the cleaning solution and give the fan and housing a thorough washing. And then rinse everything with clean water, ensuring no soapy residue remains.

  • Reassemble the blower

: He told me that after cleaning the blower,  I must let everything dry completely before reattaching the fan and plugging it back in. And then screw the access panel back on.

But I would say if your AC is older or the dust problem is severe, consider calling in a professional air conditioner technician.

I hope I was able to explain to you about a clean Air Conditioner blower just as the AC technician explained to me.
