Summary
Stamp duty is a state tax on property transactions, and its payment details are usually checked offline. To verify whether stamp duty is paid, you can apply to the District Registrar with an affidavit and pay a small fee. Alternatively, authorised stamp vendors can help. In India, stamp duty is generally paid by the buyer, except in property exchange cases where both parties share the responsibility.

Stamp duty is the tax imposed on the sale of property/property ownership by the state government and, as far as I know, you cannot know its payment details online. However, I can help you with how to check stamp duty paid or not offline. If you are struggling to figure out any details about the stamp duty payment, you can send an application to the District Registrar (Deputy Commissioner of Stamps) along with the draft of the proposed deed or deed itself and an affidavit (on stamp paper of Rs. 20). Fee: Rs. 100.

How to Check If Stamp Duty is Paid?

There is another way to check the stamp duty is paid or not. Visit an authorised stamp vendor or government official and they can help you get detailed information about the stamp duty payment details and status.

Who Pays Stamp Duty, Buyer or Seller in India?

In most cases, the buyer pays the stamp duty fee. However, both the buyer and seller have to bear the burden of stamp duty for property exchange cases. As per Section 13 of the Indian Stamp Act of 1899, a person executing a given instrument has to cancel the stamp (adhesive) by writing his or her name or initials across it.
