Hello. I’d like to help you by sharing how to change a kitchen mixer tap. The old mixer tap in our kitchen sink started making noise and even leaked once in a while. So, I thought of replacing it with a new one. I have replaced taps before like this one, so I have an idea about them. All you have to do is turn off the water supply, followed by loosening the old tap nuts. Let me describe the rest.
How to Change Mixer Tap on Kitchen Sink?
Here is how you can change the kitchen mixer tap.
Turn off the water supply in the kitchen.
Remove stuff around the kitchen tap to create enough space to work. Place a bowl below the sink to catch drips and splatters.
Take an open-ended spanner and loosen the nut which joins the supply line or the fitted isolator valves.
Use one hand to hold the tap with a plier to prevent the tap from twisting while you turn the spanner.
Unscrew the nuts completely. Loosen the nut, which clamps it to the mounting area. Use a basin wrench or a box spanner of ideal size to loosen the nut.
When you remove the nut, the tap will also come off. You can move to fit the new one.
Clean the area where the old tap was installed. I placed an individual pillar or bridge combination tap. If you are installing some other kind, the steps would differ.
Start by applying 4-5 layers of sealing PTFE tape to the water supply mains connection lower thread.
After this, wrap teflon tape in a clockwise direction. If the tap you’re installing has hose connections with pre-fittings, you don’t need the PTFE tape.
After reconnecting the tap, open the water supply and let the water run to the tap for 5 minutes. Look under the sink for any leakage.
If everything looks fine, you can turn on the tap.
These are the steps you can follow to change the mixer tap in your kitchen.
