Hey there, Devangsh. I saw you asking how to change a gasket on a toilet and I can be of help. So, the gasket is something I faced trouble with a few days ago. I called a plumber and stood there while the person changed the gasket. I am sharing the steps below that you can go through.

How to Change Gasket on Toilet?

  1. Begin by lifting the tank lid up and away from the toilet tank.

  2. Shut off the water supply to a toilet.

  3. After this, push down the flush lever to drain the toilet tank. Hold the lever down till the water stops draining from the tank.

  4. If the flush lever or pull chain has become disconnected, lift up the toilet flapper in order to drain the tank.

  5. Next, squeeze open the spring clasp that joins the pull chain to the tank lever.

  6. Disconnect the spring clasp from the tank lever.

  7. Keep a bucket under the supply tube to store any dripping water.

  8. Turn the coupling nut on the supply tube clockwise till it releases from the threaded shank on the tank’s bottom.

  9. Use a socket wrench to hold the nuts, and unscrew the two tank bolts with a screwdriver.

  10. When you reattach the tank, tighten the bolts. Alternatively, tighten every bolt in increments till the tank fits snugly against the toilet.

  11. Lift the tank from the lower half of the toilet.

  12. After this, take off the gasket from the opening at the top of the toilet bowl.

  13. Take a power towel to wipe away any residue and then place the new gasket.

I Hope this will help.

Changing a gasket on a toilet is pretty easy. Here is a brief on how to change a gasket on a toilet. First, turn off the water, drain the tank, and remove the toilet to access the old gasket. Then swap it out with a new one. Make sure that you secure everything back in place, turn the water on, and check for leaks with a test flush.

How to Change a Toilet Gasket?

Replacing a toilet gasket might seem tricky, but I have seen it done, and it’s actually pretty straightforward. Here are the steps you need to follow:

  1. Turn off the water supply, flush the toilet, and use a sponge to remove any remaining water in the tank.

  2. Then disconnect the water line and carefully unscrew the bolts holding the toilet to the floor.

  3. Gently lift the toilet and set it aside to access the old gasket, then remove it and clean the area.

  4. Place the new gasket in position, ensuring a snug fit before lowering the toilet back into place.

  5. Tighten the bolts evenly, reconnect the water supply, and turn it on to check for leaks.

You can change the gasket if you have the right tools and expertise but yet, you should hire a professional for it.

How Do I Know if My Toilet Gasket is Bad?

If you notice water pooling around the base of your toilet or come across a musty smell, your gasket might be worn out or leaking. Another sign is if your toilet wobbles slightly; it means that the seal isn’t holding properly.
