To determine the running feet for a false ceiling, you must measure the entire circumference of any components that run inside the ceiling or along the edges. Building a false ceiling was something I truly wanted to do while I was designing the interior of my home. However, I didn’t know how to calculate running feet for false ceiling. So, I researched it and have shared the easiest steps I came across.

How can I Calculate Running Feet for a False Ceiling?

  1. Determine the length and width of the space where the false ceiling will be put up. Take these measures in feet or meters, according to what you prefer.

  2. Find out which spots will have cutouts or varying levels in the false ceiling. These could be areas for recessed designs or rope lights.

  3. Determine how far the false ceiling and the true ceiling are apart.

  4. Use the following formula to determine the total number of running feet required for rope lights around the perimeter: Perimeter = 2 × (Length + Width)

  5. Now, calculate the total area using the formula, Length x Width.

  6. Determine the area of each level independently and add them up if your false ceiling has more than one.

For example, assume that you have a 10-by-11-foot rectangular room:

Total Area: 10 ft × 11 ft = 110 sq. ft.

Now, Rope Lighting Perimeter = 2 × (Length + Width) = 2 × (10 + 11) = 42 running feet.

I hope you found the calculations helpful.
