When I planned to paint my home, the first question that came to my mind was how to calculate cost of painting? I researched about it. The trick I found is to start with the basics, like measure the surface area to be painted, check the paint's coverage, and consider factors like the number of coats, labor, and materials. I have shared the formula I came across to find out the painting cost below for you.

How to Calculate Paint Cost per Square Foot?
Here’s what I found:
Begin by calculating the area of the walls, ceilings, or any surfaces to be painted.
Look at the paint can to find the coverage area per liter. Divide the total surface area by this number to know how much paint you’ll need.
Most spaces require at least two coats for the desired finish. Multiply the paint quantity by the number of coats.
Multiply the total liters of paint needed by its price.
If hiring professionals include labor costs and additional materials like primer, brushes, or rollers, add those to get the ultimate cost.
To calculate the cost of painting, you can use the following formula:
Paint Cost= ((Surface Area/Coverage Area of Paint) x Number of Coats x Paint Price)
For example, to calculate the painting cost for my 500 sq. ft. room, I noted that the paint covers 100 sq. ft. per liter. Two coats meant 10 liters of paint, which I multiplied by the paint price. Adding labor gave me the final estimate. This is all about how to calculate painting cost.
