You can start the sanding process. For that, use 220 grit sandpaper and use it to remove the original finish. This could take a bit of work. After that, clean the dust with a microfiber cloth. Here’s what to do next.
After cleaning the furniture, you need to use a clear primer so that the natural grain of the wood is visible.
Take a water-based black paint and spray on the furniture surface generously.
Next, take a dry shop rag and blot the area that you want to look worn out. You can also mix the paint in water in a 1:1 ratio and apply it with a paintbrush.
After you are done with the painting process, you can choose any topcoat of your choice and apply it all over.
