Recently, I hired a professional to apply water-based polyurethane on my wood floor. I was there watching how they worked. They started with cleaning the floor, followed by patching and sanding. They taped off the areas before completing the rest of the process. From this experience, I understood the full method. So, if you want to know how to apply water based polyurethane to wood floors, just follow the steps I mentioned below.
How to Apply Oil Based Polyurethane on Wood Floors?
First, sweep the floor nicely and use a HEPA vacuum to clear all the dust.
Now, check for cracks, fill them with patch material, and let it dry for a day.
After that, sand the floor. Start with coarse grit and finish with fine grit.
Cover the walls, trim, and other fixed items with painter’s tape.
Mix the polyurethane slowly and pour some into another container.
For the big areas, use a roller and apply it in long strokes along the grain. In the smaller corners, use a cloth and apply thin, even layers.
Finally, let the floor dry for about 4 hours before touching it.
The full curing takes around 5 days. This is how they applied the oil-based polyurethane on the wood floors. Hope this helps you.
