The plywood of my TV cabinet looked rough and plain, so I called a carpenter to make it smooth and better looking. He checked the condition and suggested using veneer to improve its finish. While he worked, I closely observed how to apply veneer to plywood. He started by applying adhesive. Veneers offer a consistent, smooth surface that is perfect for painting, polishing, and staining.
How to Apply Wood Veneer to Plywood?
First, he used wood glue and applied a thin, even layer on both the plywood surface and the back side of the veneer.
Then, he carefully placed the veneer on the plywood, aligning it properly with the edges.
He pressed it firmly using a wooden block to remove any air bubbles and ensure strong bonding.
After that, he placed wax paper over it and used clamps to hold it tightly.
I was asked to leave it to dry for 24 hours, as per the adhesive instructions.
Though, it’s a simple method, I’d advise you to hire a professional for this job for perfection.
