Hey mate. The process through which you can learn how to apply gel stain to finished wood requires you to stir the gel and apply it uniformly in even strokes over the wood. There are several processes which are involved in this method. Let me take you through them one after the other.

How to Apply Gel Stain on Finished Wood?

Here is the complete process to apply gel stain over a piece of finished wood.

  1. Begin by analysing that the surface of the wood is clean and dry. You can opt to sand the wood gently to increase the adhesive strength.

  2. Then, stir your gel stain to achieve a uniform consistency. Once done, apply a tiny amount of the gel on a small portion of the wood, which won’t be easily noticed. This is to check whether this is the colour you wish to apply or not.

  3. Next is the application part. Grab a brush and a sponge. Then, apply a thin layer of the gel in the same direction as the wood grain. Work your way in small areas so that it takes time to dry, and you’ll be able to blend it. Now, if you want a darker colour, let the gel sit for a longer period. On the other hand, wipe it if you want a lighter colour shade.

  4. Here, take a clean cloth, such as a T-shirt which is lint-free. Wipe away the excess stain and blend the colour uniformly across the surface of the wood. Follow the instructions mentioned on the container while doing this step.

  5. In the last step regarding how to apply gel stain to finished wood, keep the wood aside and let it dry completely. Do not place anything over the wood till there is not even a slight trace of moisture on the surface.

This is how to use gel stain on wood. I hope you have now learnt the process.
