I came to know that we can get free electricity in Karnataka when my neighbour told me that his electricity bill was around Rs. 1000 but he had to pay nothing for it. When I asked about it, he told me how to apply for free electricity in Karnataka. He said that the Gruha Jyothi scheme provides free electricity to Karnataka residents.  The Karnataka State government declared that under this initiative, all customers who use an average of less than 200 units of power (average to be determined based on usage) would receive a zero-electricity bill.

How to Get Free Electricity in Karnataka?

Karnataka state residents can use the Seva Sindhu portal on their laptops, phones, or desktop computers to register for this plan online. Gruha Jyoti Scheme eligibility

• The scheme is only open to Karnataka State residents.
• The only household tie that qualifies is domestic/resident.
• A homeowner is only eligible for one electric meter connection incentive under the scheme.
• Even if the homeowner owns the meter, tenants are still eligible to get the benefit.
• When living in Karnataka, non-residents are also eligible to get benefits under the plan.
• The account or consumer ID on the electricity bill needs to be connected to the Aadhaar card.

How Can I Get Free Electricity in Karnataka?

1. Go to AA - Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited website.
2. On the home page, at the bottom, you will be able to see a link saying ‘Gruha Jyothi Scheme-Click here to Apply through Seva Sindhu Portal’
3. Click on the link and you will be redirected to a new page.
4. On this page, you will see the Gruha Jyothi scheme option with the logo of a bulb.
5. Click on it and a new page will open where you will have to choose your preferred language between English and Kannada.
6. Then you will have to enter your Account ID or Connection ID, Account Holder Name as in BESCOM, Account Holder Address as per BESCOM, Type of occupancy, your Aadhaar Number, Applicant Name as in Aadhaar, and Mobile number for communication.
7. Then tick off the declaration and enter the captcha code and submit the application.
