Summary
To apply epoxy on a concrete floor, start by thoroughly cleaning and drying the surface, removing dust, grease, and stains. Etch the floor to create a rough texture for better adhesion, then repair cracks and holes. Mix the epoxy and apply the first coat evenly, followed by a second coat in the opposite direction. Ensure proper drying, ventilation, and professional handling for a durable, long-lasting finish.

Here is how to apply epoxy to concrete floor,

  1. First, clean the concrete floor completely. If the concrete is new, allow it to cure for 30 days. Remove dust, dirt, wax, oil, and loose material using a scraper or stiff brush. Scrub the floor with warm water and a strong detergent to remove grease and stains.

  2. Rinse the surface with clean water. You may use a pressure washer, but keep the pressure below 1,750 PSI. Allow the floor to dry fully because moisture can stop epoxy from curing properly.

  3. Next, prepare the concrete surface by lightly roughening it to improve adhesion. Always wear gloves and eye protection, and wet the floor before starting.

  4. Mix the concrete etch with warm water as directed. Pour it on the floor and scrub with a stiff brush in small sections, keeping it wet. Rinse while scrubbing. The floor should feel rough like sandpaper. Let it dry completely.

  5. After that, repair cracks and holes. Use a cement-based patching compound to fill all gaps. Smooth the surface and allow it to dry well. Remove any peeling paint and clean mildew if present.

  6. Now, mix the epoxy coating. Make sure the temperature is above 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Do not thin the epoxy.

  7. Apply the first coat evenly using a roller or brush. Avoid applying epoxy to a hot surface. Allow proper ventilation. Wait at least four hours before applying the second coat.

  8. Finally, apply the second coat in the opposite direction. Allow the epoxy to dry fully before using the floor. Proper application ensures a durable and long-lasting epoxy floor.

This is not a DIY process. You should hire a professional to get a proper finish for your floor.
