Hey Satish. I know an antiqued piece of furniture may give any space a special character. Last month, I planned to get all my furniture painted for this look. But, I didn’t know how to antique wood with paint. So, I hired a painter for that and watched the process he performed. He gathered materials, such as sandpaper, a clear protective finish, a darker paint for the antique effect, and a base coat of paint in my preferred hue. As best as I can recall, I have shared the process he carried out below.

How to Make Wood Look Vintage with Paint?

One excellent approach to provide a distressed, old look to furniture is to paint antique wood. The painter I hired followed the procedure below to accomplish this effect.

  • He painted a base coat in the color I specified. Be sure to evenly cover the wood's entire surface.

  • Before proceeding to the following step, allow the paint to completely dry.

  • In places like corners and edges where wear and tear occurred, he used the darker paint.

  • He created a distressed look by carefully blending the darker paint into the base coat using a dry brush.

  • Allow it to completely dry before gently distressing the wood's surface with sandpaper.

  • Finally, seal and preserve the antiqued wood by applying a clear protective finish.

I hope you understand how do you paint furniture to make it look antique.

Hi,

To antique wood with paint, follow these steps:

  • Prepare the Surface: Sand the wood to create a smooth base for the paint and remove any existing finish.

  • Apply Base Coat: Choose a light-colored paint as a base coat and apply it evenly on the wood surface. Let it dry completely.

  • Add Distressing: Use sandpaper or a damp cloth to distress specific areas, creating a worn and weathered look.

  • Apply Darker Paint: Mix dark paint with glaze and apply it over the base coat. Wipe off excess paint to achieve an aged appearance.

  • Seal the Finish: Once satisfied with the antique effect, seal the wood with a clear varnish or wax to protect the finish.

By following these steps, you can achieve a charming antique look on your wood furniture or decor pieces using paint.
