I recently decided to renovate my kitchen because it was in such poor condition. I hired a professional to help with the work. Before we got started, we discussed the budget, the design, and a few other details. At one point, I asked him how tall are standard kitchen cabinets, just out of curiosity. He told me that the standard height of the kitchen is 34.5 inches.

How High are Standard Kitchen Cabinets?

The professional said that,

1. The standard height of a base cabinet is 34.5 inches, and it becomes 36 inches when the countertop is added. 

2. The depth is usually 21 or 24 inches, but if the cabinet has a turntable, it can be 33 inches deep. 

3. The widths for base cabinets come in many sizes, like 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 26.25, 27, 30, 33, 36, 39, and 42 inches. There are also filler cabinets that come in 6 and 9 inches to fill small gaps.

He also shared that the standard height of kitchen wall cabinets is usually 30, 36, or 42 inches, depending on what you like and the height of your ceiling. The depth is either 12 or 24 inches. The widths are commonly 12, 15, 18, 24, 27, 30, 33, and 36 inches. 

Filler cabinets for wall units are also available in smaller sizes, such as 3, 6, and 9 inches, to ensure everything fits nicely. I hope now you know how high are kitchen cabinets.

What should be the Height of Kitchen Base Units from Floor?

When I talk about base units, we take the general height between 870mm to 1000mm. This includes the plinth, too. On top of this, a 40mm kitchen worktop is counted, which makes the overall kitchen height 910mm.

Now, when I think of installing a kitchen cabinet, the height will be set as 34.5 inches. To this, we, as interior designers, also add the countertop thickness, which is 1.5 inches. This brings the total to 36 inches, which is the standard height.

Although this may not appear to be an issue, it is always good to know kitchen cabinet height and other dimensions to choose the best for yourself and your kitchen. Since I have a recent experience, I would love to share it with you and tell you how tall are kitchen cabinets for semi-custom cabinets.

Standard sizes are available for base cabinets, wall cabinets, and tall specialty cabinets. When picking a base cabinet size, keep in mind that the measurements are taken from the floor to the top of the cabinet box. The thickness of the countertop that will sit above the base cabinets is not included in the heights.

Kitchen Base Cabinet Height, Depth, and Width

Base kitchen cabinets, which are installed directly on the floor, are the workhorses of kitchen design. They are used to lay counters, install sinks, bracket dishwashers and ovens, and store pots and pans.
