From the day I got my first salary, my father helped me understand how much percentage of salary should be invested. As per his guidance, I am following a 50/30/20 rule: which states that 50% of your post-tax income should go toward necessities (such as rent and groceries), 30% should go toward personal desires, and 20% should go toward savings and investments. I have been following this rule for the last 8 years and this actually helped in finding balance between financial growth and spending.
What Percentage of Salary Should be Invested?
As per my opinion 20% of your salary should be invested in mutual funds or other wealth-building investment vehicles.
For example, my monthly income is Rs. 60,000, so I save 20% of it which is Rs. 12,000. In this 12000, I invest the Rs. 6,000 in mutual funds, and use the remaining Rs. 6,000 to buy stocks.
This can be changed according to objectives, age, and obligations. You can even decide to invest 15 to 25% of your salary if you're young and have less responsibilities in order to aggressively accumulate long-term wealth.
