How Much Paint Required for 2BHK?

To calculate the amount of paint required for a 2 BHK flat, you can follow a simple calculation. Generally, a 2 BHK flat has a wall painting area of 1000 to 1400 square feet and a ceiling area of around 800 to 1000 square feet. So based on this value, here is the calculation you can follow:

Primer and Paint Coverage:

Primer: 1 litre covers approximately 220 sq. ft.

Paint: 1 litre covers approximately 100 sq. ft.

For the walls (taking 1200 sq. ft.):

• Primer: 1200 sq. ft. / 220 sq. ft. per litre = 5.5 litres (rounded up to 6 litres)

• Paint: 1200 sq. ft. / 100 sq. ft. per litre = 12 litres

For the ceiling (assuming 900 sq. ft.):

• Primer: 900 sq. ft. / 220 sq. ft. per litre = 4 litres

• Paint: 900 sq. ft. / 100 sq. ft. per litre = 9 litres

Total Required:

• Primer: 6 litres (walls) + 4 litres (ceiling) = 10 litres

• Paint: 12 litres (walls) + 9 litres (ceiling) = 21 litres

On average, around 25 to 30 litres of paint is needed for a 2 BHK house of 1,000 sq. ft. Now, I have arrived at this number while considering a lot of factors, which you must be aware of while calculating the paint requirements for your house. They are:

• Wall Condition:

  The coverage of the paint depends on the condition of the walls. If your walls are rough, more paint will be needed to cover the walls. On the other hand, smooth walls are easier to paint.

• Labour:

  The skills of the labour also determine the paint needed. A professional would look to get the work done by using the paint judiciously.

• Area:

  This is a basic determinant. The greater the area of your 2 BHK, the greater will be the paint requirement.

Now, the number I quoted above is an estimated figure, and you must consult your painting agent to determine the paint required for 2 BHK flat. You can also get a rough estimate of the paint needed by using the below formula.

= (area of all the four walls in each space) - (area of windows in each space) - (area of doors in each space) / coverage of paint in sq. ft. per litre

Remember to subtract the area of windows and doors only if you wish to find the paint needed to cover the walls.
