Recently, I took up a DIY project about repainting my living room as it has been over a decade since it was painted. My living room is 300 sq ft, and I didn’t know how much paint I would need for that. Thus, I started doing some research on how much paint do I need for 300 square feet. I learned that around 130 sq. ft. area can be covered with 1 litre of paint, so for 300 sq ft it was around 3 litres.
How Much Paint to Cover 300 sq. ft.?
I also came to know that 1 gallon of paint usually covers 300 sq ft. As I mentioned earlier, 1 litre of paint covers around 130 sq. ft so let me share the calculation for 300 sq ft. The amount of paint needed for 300 sq. ft. should be
Amount of paint needed = 300/130 = 2.308 litres.
Now, this is just for one coat of paint and generally, walls are painted with 2 or 3 coats. So, for 2 coats of paint on the wall, the amount needed would be 2.308 x 2 = 4.62 litres.
And for 3 coats, the amount needed would be 2.308 x 3 = 6.92 litres.
However, the amount mentioned can differ based on the type of paint being used. I had purchased around 5 litres to paint for my living room. After the completion of the painting job, some paint was still left in the can. I hope this helps.

Being associated with the painting, and renovation industry, I can say that the type of paint and the number of coats will determine how much paint for 300 sq feet. On a smooth surface, one litre of emulsion paint covers 100 to 120 square feet per coat. Therefore, you would normally need 5 to 6 litres of paint for 300 square feet for two coats.
How Much Paint for 300 Square Feet?
As per my work experience, I can say that you will need around 5 to 6 litres of paint for a 300 sq. ft. space. Rough or textured walls might absorb more paint. Additionally, an additional coat is sometimes needed for darker colours to get an even finish.
If you're using primer first, you might save some paint on topcoats, but you'll still need 1 to 2 litres of primer in that case.
Rounding up a bit is always a good idea to account for surface variances or touch-ups.
