I have been using my mattress for almost 8 years. Sanitising it is indeed a time taking procedure, however, I still try to regularly maintain it to increase its longevity. This is because buying a new one is quite expensive. Mattresses can accumulate bacteria, dust mites, sweat, and dead skin cells over time, which can cause allergies and disturb sleep. Hence, knowing how to sanitize a mattress is important. I have shared the steps that I follow to sanitise my mattress.

How Do You Sanitize a Mattress?

  1. Vacuum Completely: To get rid of dust, allergies, and debris from all areas, use a vacuum attachment designed for upholstery.

  2. Spot Clean Stains: Use gentle cleansers or a paste made of baking soda and water to remove stains. Scrub gently, then let it dry.

  3. Apply Baking Soda: To eliminate smells, scatter baking soda all over the mattress. After a couple of hours, vacuum it off.

  4. Use steam cleaning to get rid of dust mites and bacteria. Keep moisture levels low to prevent the growth of mould.

  5. Exposure to Sunlight: Try to put the mattress in the sun. It dries off any moisture and disinfects naturally.

Regular sanitisation prolongs the life of your mattress while simultaneously enhancing hygiene.
