I have been using my mattress for 5 years. However, I deodorise it, and maintain it to prevent buying a new one. Let me tell you mattresses nowadays are quite expensive, so to prevent a hole in my pocket, I decided to maintain it regularly. So if you want to know how do you deodorize a mattress, I can share a few pointers with you. In contrast to clothing, mattresses should not be drenched in water or machine washed.
How to Deodorise a Mattress?
Thoroughly Vacuum: To get rid of dust, dead skin, and pet hair, use a vacuum with upholstery attachments. It also facilitates the movement of fresh air among the mattress's fibers.
Expose to sunlight: For a few hours, expose your mattress to direct sunshine. In addition to naturally drying off perspiration, humidity, and moisture, sunlight kills microorganisms.
Use Cornstarch & Baking Soda: Apply a mixture of cornstarch and baking soda to the mattress to absorb body odour and oil. After a couple of hours, let it sit and then vacuum it off.
Ventilate Your Mattress: Ventilating your mattress on a regular basis helps minimise moisture and residual odours, even in the absence of direct sunshine.
Use a Mattress Protector: Invest in a mattress protector made of bamboo or waterproof to protect your mattress from allergens, sweat, and spills. It keeps smells out of the air.
Also, I must say that you should get a new mattress if your mattress is too old.
