Hi. A few days ago, I noticed that one of my kitchen cabinet doors was not shutting properly. It was slightly misaligned and pushing against the frame. As I was unsure how do I adjust cabinet door hinges, I hired a carpenter. After watching the process, it turned out to be easier than I thought. I have shared those steps below.

How Do You Adjust Cabinet Door Hinges?

Determine the hinge type and the issue associated with it. As my cabinet door collided with another door, here is the step the pro followed:

  • Turn the side screw on each hinge.

  • Turning clockwise brings the door closer to the hinge side, while counterclockwise takes it away.

  • Make minor turns (1/4 turn at a time).

  • Verify alignment after each change.

  • Ensure there are no gaps or rubbings after all the changes. Open and close the door a few times. Make minor adjustments as needed.

Daily use can loosen the adjust cabinet door slightly over time. If a screw no longer grips, hire a professional carpenter.

I have been doing such minor fixings at home for a long time; hence, I can guide you through how do I adjust cabinet door hinges. If your cabinet door is misaligned, you will have to start by tightening any loose screws on the hinges. For bigger adjustments, just use the screws on the hinge to shift the door up, down, in, or out until it sits just right.

How Do You Adjust Cabinet Door Hinges?

Adjusting cabinet door hinges is basically tightening the screws. Here is a set of steps that you can follow:

  1. Tighten the Screws: First, check if any hinge screws are loose. If they are, use a screwdriver to tighten them.

  2. Adjust Side-to-Side: If the door is too far left or right, turn the side adjustment screw on the hinge to move it in or out until it aligns properly.

  3. Adjust Up or Down: If the door is too high or low, loosen the mounting screws on the hinge plate slightly, shift the door to the right height, and then retighten them.

  4. Adjust In or Out: If the door isn’t closing properly, turn the depth adjustment screw to move it closer to or farther from the cabinet frame.

  5. Test and Fine-Tune: Open and close the door a few times, making small adjustments until it moves smoothly and aligns perfectly.

These steps should work. If they do not, you might need to work on the door or change it, so it is better to hire a professional for the task.
