I have always been fascinated with automatic sliding doors. Just out of curiosity, I researched how do automatic sliding doors work. In a YouTube video, I found the key lies in motion sensors and a motorized track system. The motor slides the door along its rails when the sensor detects movement. I have shared its operation in detail below.

How Does an Automatic Sliding Door Work?

Automatic sliding doors open and close by use of a motor that is activated by sensors that detect motion or presence. These sensors are frequently pressure-sensitive mats or infrared sensors. They communicate with the door's functioning mechanism, which consists of a belt or pulley system and a gear motor. The door will automatically close after a predetermined amount of time or when the sensor can no longer detect a person. I hope you found this helpful.

The Optical Sensors

Automatic sliding doors come with optical or motion sensors to monitor the opening and closing functions. These sensors are installed over the automatic sliding door or they are installed into the dooring frame from above or the side. These types of settings are in the commercial industry as well.

  Motor Mechanism

The motion sensor is wired to an electrified main drive. There is an auxiliary drive or cog wheel along the door panel. The auxiliary drive is connected to the internal belts or cables made up of rubber that help to open and close the door.

  Track and Rollers

In every sliding door, there are tracks and rollers installed so that the sliding door moves back and forth. These rollers and trackers are located on the top and bottom of the track. The panel of the sliding door should be cleaned properly so that rollers can move properly without getting stuck in between.

I hope you understand the process on how does automatic sliding door mechanism works.
