There was serious chaos a few months back in our area regarding the construction of a building in close proximity to the highway. People gathered around and demanded the project be annulled. The project did not maintain the minimum distance between building and road hence the revolt was justified. After all, it's better to stop the construction in the beginning only than demolishing it after the construction. I hope most of you know how close can you build to a highway if not I can share the distance. I will also share why is this distance maintained so read this answer till the end.
What should be the distance between road and building?
As per the Land Control Rules, 1964, the construction of a building should not be allowed from the centre line of any road on National and Provincial Highways in open and agricultural areas- 75 feet and 60 feet in urban and industrial areas respectively. The construction of buildings within 40 m from the central line of any Highway will be considered illegal and hence can be demolished anytime.
Why is the minimum distance between a highway and a building is maintained?A building should not lie in close proximity to a highway because
The dwellers of the house will have serious air pollution and cause lung or other diseases
Noise pollution can also affect the health of the dwellers
The dwellers will have a lack of privacy and safety
Hope you have now understood why is the minimum distance between building and road maintained.
