BESCOM calculates your electricity bill using simple steps based on power use, energy use, and tariff rates. Here is how BESCOM bill is calculated:
First, find the power of each appliance. You calculate power in watts by multiplying amps by volts.
Next, BESCOM calculates energy consumption. It multiplies watts by the number of hours the appliance is used and then divides the result by 1000. This gives kilowatt-hours, also called units.
BESCOM adds all units used in the billing period to get the total consumption.
Then it applies the electricity rate based on your connection type.
For LT-1 residential users, the energy charge is Rs. 5.90 per unit, plus a 36-paise surcharge from April 2025.
LT-2 connections pay Rs. 7.25 per unit, while LT-3 commercial users pay Rs. 8 per unit.
In rural areas, BESCOM reduces the bill by 30 paise per unit.
BESCOM also adds fixed charges. These charges depend on the sanctioned load, measured in kilowatts.
For LT-1 residential users, the fixed charge is Rs. 120 per kW up to 50 kW and Rs. 210 per kW above 50 kW.
LT-2 users pay Rs. 180 per kW up to 50 kW and Rs. 250 per kW above 50 kW.
LT-3 users pay Rs. 210 per kW up to 50 kW and Rs. 300 per kW above 50 kW.
Finally, BESCOM multiplies total units by the rate, adds fixed charges, includes any surcharge, and applies rebates if eligible. This total amount becomes your electricity bill.

To calculate the BESCOM bill, you must sum Fixed Charges (calculated on the sanctioned load measured in kW), Energy Charges (the number of units consumed in kWh multiplied by the applicable tariff slab rates), FPPCA (Fuel/Power Purchase Cost Adjustment), Taxes (GST). After that, you need to subtract any Gruha Jyoti subsidy or prior adjustments, with an additional surcharge of 36 paise per unit applied.
If you qualify for the Gruha Jyoti Scheme and consume power below 200 units, the government might cover the full bill amount (excluding fixed fees and FPPCA for usage beyond 200 units). The exact formula to know how to calculate BESCOM bill is:
(Fixed Fees + Energy Fees + FPPCA + Additional Fees) + Taxes - Subsidies/Outstanding Payments. To determine your exact electricity rates, you must refer to the most recent tariff order provided by the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission on the official ESCOM website.

Hello. I can help you by sharing how BESCOM bill is calculated. I am a resident of Bangalore and am familiar with the bill calculation process. There are a few elements, included in the BESCOM bill, which are the fixed charge, energy charge, tax, fuel and Power Purchase Cost Adjustment (FPPCA). I will tell you about the bill calculation process below.
How to Calculate BESCOM Bill?
The bill is calculated by BESCOM based on the units consumed by your household every month along with other variables and a fixed charge.
The government of Karnataka announced that it will give 200 units of electricity for free to each household in the state under the Gruha Jyoti Scheme. So, if you come under this scheme and your monthly electricity consumption does not exceed 200 units, you can get a subsidy for the complete bill amount.
At present, the per unit tariff charged by BESCOM is Rs. 5.90, which has seen a reduction of 110 paise from Rs. 7 per unit this year. For the fixed charges, the rate is 110 for 1 to 50 KW sanction load, while the rate for sanction loads exceeding 50 KW is Rs. 210.
So, let me give you an example of how to calculate electricity bill BESCOM. If you consume 205 units, the charges will be as follows:
Fixed charges: Rs. 210
Energy charge: Rs. 5.90 per unit for 205 units
The bill will then be calculated by adding the respective tax, and FPPCA.
