My house help belongs to a lower middle class family and she is the sole breadwinner. She has two children and they are admitted in a private school under the EWS category. We helped her out to get an EWS certificate, also known as the Economically Weaker Section certificate.
In case of students, the parent has to obtain the EWS certificate and submit in the institution. The eligibility for EWS certificate is:
Applicant must belong to the general category only
Family income must be less than Rs. 8 lakhs per annum
Those whose family members are in possession of the following will be excluded from the EWS category, irrespective of family income:
5 acres of agricultural land and above
Residential at of 1000 sq ft. and above;
Residential plot of 100 sq. yards and above in notified municipalities
A residential plot of 200 sq. yards and above in areas other than the notified municipalities.
You will need the following documents if you want to apply for EWS certificate:
Passport-sized photograph
Aadhaar card
ID Proof (Pan card, Voter ID, etc.)
Land/property documents
Affidavit/Self Declaration
Residential proof/Domicile Certificate
