See, the answer to your question, does one coat paint really work, really depends on the condition of the wall, paint coverage, its quality and whether you are switching to a different paint or not. In general, it is not recommended to just paint with one coat, as the coverage is not sufficient. But there are scenarios when one coat can be enough. But, how do you decide whether 1 coat is enough or not? I will tell you below.
When does One Coat Paint Work?
Surface condition needs to be good. If your walls have the existing paint intact with no big damage, peeling or discolouration, a single coat can be enough.
The quality and coverage of the paint you’re using also matter. High-quality paint with high coverage takes up fewer coats to cover the surface.
If you are doing maintenance coating on the surface, then a single coat can work. By maintenance coating, I mean touch-up of the surface in areas with minor wear and tear to increase the life of the paint job.
Also, an important factor is whether you’re switching to a different colour. If you are painting with the same colour as the existing one, one coat can be enough to cover. However, changing from one colour to another will need more than a single coat.
This is all I know. I hope this helps.
