Acoustic foam does not soundproof a room. It primarily improves indoor sound quality by minimising echo and reverberation. As it is light and has little mass, it cannot prevent noise from entering or exiting a space. Acoustic foam must be used in conjunction with heavier materials such as mass-loaded vinyl, insulation panels, sealed doors, or soundproof drapes to provide true soundproofing.
