Hey bud! I know you wish to understand do you have to seal chalk paint. Well, I had a similar question a few days back. We got our dining table and chairs painted. Yes, we used chalk paint for the purpose. The problem that came up on the third day was that the paintwork started to chip. As the table and chairs were used extensively, the damage just kept on increasing before we realised.

The mistake from our end was not to seal the chalk paint after the work. Hence, I took remedial action and asked the painter to apply a protective seal. So, if you ask me whether do you need to seal chalk paint, the answer’s a yes. I have also stated the reasons below.

  • Protection

As I stated, my chalk paint began to chip, and that’s why you need to add a protective layer to your chalk paint. This will help the paint to fight against the external factors and remain intact.

  • Saves Time and Money

Another reason to apply the seal is to save both on time and money. If you get the job done first hand, you won’t need to redo the paint which would cost extra money and time.

Here below, I am mentioning a few top coats for your chalk paint. Kindly have a look.

  • Polycrylic

This top coat is excellent for materials having high contact, for example, chairs. Although close to polyurethane, this coat prevents yellowing, unlike its counterpart.

  • Wax

This material gives the surface a great deal of protection against water and is amongst the most used top coats out there.

I hope this answers your question regarding does chalk paint need to be sealed.
