Hey. There are quite a lot of differences between termite damage vs wood rot. Both of these are tough to deal with and their differences work like indicators in determining what happened to the wood. Some differences are also based on what causes the damage and the areas where these two occur. I will share detailed differences both wood rot and termite damage with you below.

Difference Between Wood Rot and Termites

  1. Wood Rot

  2. Wood rot is mainly found in places where the wood could be or has been exposed to water. So, locations like roof decks, window and door frames are where this problem occurs.

  3. The cause of wood rot is mould.

  4. The wood becomes soft and spongy when wood rots.

  5. The wood becomes chunky, like it will appear in small cube-like chunks.

  6. Wood rot has an appearance that it is dehydrated, which is the opposite of what causes it.

  1. Termite

  2. Termites damage wood in shelves and tunnels. The insects will form a long, thin tier in the wood. You may alternatively see very small holes and tunnels in the wood.

  3. It is caused by insects.

  4. The wood damaged by termites would be hollow and weak but slightly less crumbly than dry-rotted wood.

  5. The wood breaks into long, thin chunks.

I hope this helps.
