I recently decided to spray paint my kitchen cabinets since I was bored with their old and worn out look. On asking a painter, can I spray paint kitchen cabinets? I learned that Yes, it is possible to spray paint kitchen cabinets. Also, spray painting can help give them a new, modern look without breaking the bank on a complete makeover.

Is Spray Painting Kitchen Cabinets a Good Idea?

I learned that,

  1. Spray painting your cabinets can be extremely durable if done properly, so your kitchen will continue to look fantastic for many years to come.

  2. Additionally, spray painting is an easy fix to repair any scratches that can develop over time.

The precise lifespan will vary depending on a number of factors, including the paint's quality, application technique, and the amount of wear and tear your kitchen sustains over time. However, a kitchen cabinet that has been spray-painted should sustain for at least five years, or more.

When my kitchen cabinets started to look dull after a while, I searched for a low-cost solution without wanting to replace them. That’s when I wondered, can you spray paint kitchen cabinets? After researching, I found that spray painting is the easiest way to restore cabinets and cupboards. The steps that I followed were simple.

Can You Spray Paint Kitchen Cupboards?

Here’s the process for spraying paint on kitchen cabinets and cupboards:

Dismantle and Cleaning

  • Remove all the hinges and screws from your kitchen cabinet doors and drawers.

  • You can scrub the surface with 1 cup of trisodium phosphate mixed with 4 cups of water, to remove grease, steam or food residue on your kitchen hardware by rinsing the doors and cabinets.

  • You can also spray a degreaser on the door fronts and drawer faces to clean and wipe them with a soft cloth.

Sand

  • Select a grit-sandpaper based on the gloss and type of paint on your doors and drawers. Use a hand sand block with sandpaper on worn and shiny areas to remove any old finishing

  • You have to sand the paint flaking spot to bare wood. After sanding, dust off with vacuum and wipe with a moist cloth for a clean surface.

Primer and Painting:

  • Spray the primer-sealer in thick even layers for better sticking of paint on the surface.

  • You can spray the topcoat which is thinned by 80% paint and 20% water, and apply from the inside edges and openings, then move towards the outer cabinet and door faces. The drying time for each layer is four hours.

When in doubt on can I spray paint kitchen cabinets? I hope this guide helps you.
