Summary
Yes, you can change recessed lighting to a chandelier, but it requires the right support and wiring. To do this, switch off the power, remove the recessed fixture, and install a ceiling-rated electrical box or conversion kit. Secure it properly, connect the wires correctly, and mount the chandelier safely.

Yes, you can change recessed lighting to chandelier. Here is the step-by-step process.

  1. Turn off the power at the breaker and check that the light is off.

  2. Remove the bulb and the recessed trim from the can.

  3. Find the socket. If it is medium-base, unscrew it to attach the pigtail.

  4. Screw the pigtail adapter into the socket firmly.

  5. Take the mounting brace from the parts bag. Remove the crossbar and keep the washer.

  6. Slide the brace to fit the can and lock the centre screw.

  7. Secure the brace inside the can with two self-piercing screws and washers.

  8. Attach the green or bare ground wire to the edge of the metal can or box, and tighten it.

  9. Feed the chandelier wires through the centre hole of the metal cover plate.

  10. Align the plate notches with the bracket and twist the plate until it sits flush.

  11. Choose chandelier height. Shorten the chain and wire as needed. Leave enough wire to connect.

  12. Hang the chandelier on the bracket using the mounting screws. Ensure it hangs steady.

  13. Connect wires by colour: hot to hot (brown/black), neutral to neutral (blue/white), ground to ground. Use wire nuts.

  14. Tuck the connected wires into the ceiling box so nothing shows.

  15. Fit the decorative medallion and canopy over the plate and secure with the screw ring.

  16. Install bulbs and any glass shades. Use the bulbs and wattage the fixture recommends.

  17. Turn the breaker on and test the chandelier. If it does not work, turn the breaker off and recheck the connections.

This is how you can convert the recessed lighting to a chandelier. Hope this will help you.
