My mother is way too orthodox in such matters and keeps everything or at least tries to keep things at their respective places only following the Vastu norms. I once had kept the mop and bucket in the south direction and got scolded a lot. I learnt that day, you can keep these things in the northwest or west corner of your home. So keeping them on the terrace in the west direction is all okay. You need not worry at all about it.
Do remember that you should not be keeping them in the puja room or in the northeast or southeast direction.
