We didn’t have space for a pooja room in our previous house, so we kept idols in the bedroom. But I later thought about whether can we keep god idols in bedroom or not. So, I contacted a Vastu expert who stated clearly that it is not right to have god idols in the bedroom. This is because the bedroom is associated with enjoying life in several forms and keeping idols there is considered disrespectful.

Do’s and Don’ts of Placing God Idols

See I can very well understand that you can run out of space in a small house, in such a case, it is recommended that you keep the mandir in the northeast corner. There are some do’s and don’ts which will help you:

Do’s

  1. Have the worshipping space in the east, north or northeast.

  2. Place the idols at a height, away from the ground. Use a pedestal.

  3. The worshipping room must be well-ventilated.

  4. Keep the room free of clutter and clean it every day.

  5. Have incense sticks, flowers, diya holy books and bells in the room.

Don’ts

  1. Idols shouldn’t face each other.

  2. Never have the temple above, below or adjacent to a toilet or kitchen.

  3. Never have the temple below the stairs or in storage rooms.

  4. Idols should not touch the walls.

  5. Avoid keeping photos of animals, birds or scenes from epics like the Mahabharat in the room of worshipping.
