As Ganesh puja is knocking, just like every year, I have planned to get a Ganesha idol this year as well and do the puja with devotion. But this time, I planned to place Bappa in the south corner of my living room. But I too had this question in mind: can we keep Ganesh idol facing south? As per my research, I discovered that a Ganesh idol facing south is not auspicious in accordance with Vastu Shastra.

Can We Place Ganesha Facing South?

No! You should not place your Ganesh idol facing south because:

  1. Yama and Agni dominate the South and Southeast directions, which makes them unlucky for placing idols.

  2. It is also considered inauspicious to place them under staircases, and near toilets or drains.

As per Vastu Shastra, the best spot is to place the idol at the northeast (Ishaan) corner, facing either east or west. This ensures the graceful presence of Lord Ganesha at home.
