The pooja room should be in the north-east direction of the house. I asked our priest about can pooja room be next to main door and he suggested that it can be next to the entrance but not in front of it. The main entrance is a high-traffic area and the energy that is coming from outside can disrupt the serene environment of the pooja room.

Is Pooja Room in Front of Main Door Considered Good?

While enquiring about can pooja room facing entrance with our priest, we learnt that as per Vastu, pooja room in front of the entrance is not considered good. This is because:

  1. The pooja room is a sacred room and having the pooja room in front of the entrance can affect the privacy and sacredness of the goods and goddesses there

  2. The pooja room should not face the negative energy of the outside world so avoid constructing it in front of the main door

  3. Having a pooja room in front of the entrance can reduce the effectiveness of your prayers

If by chance you have your pooja room constructed in front of the entrance, hang a curtain and make a partition between the entrance and the pooja room.

Can the pooja room face the main door?

According to Vastu experts, placing the puja room directly in front of the main door is not good. If you cannot avoid it due to your home construction, then at least cover the temple with a curtain. Generally, it is believed that the pooja room should be placed in the northeast or east direction of the house.

  • One of the reasons behind placing the pooja room in the mentioned direction is that those directions receive maximum sunlight and positive vibes that are considered holy and pure.

  • Having the pooja room opposite to main door may cause negative energy to flow into the holy space, disrupt or affect your mental peace.

  • I strongly advise you to keep your pooja room away from the basement and top floor of the house if you're constructing a new home or have control over the available spaces. Your mandir should ideally be located on the ground floor.

Ultimately, it is important for you to study and understand the principles of Vastu Shastra before deciding on the placement of the pooja room. I hope this answer to “Can pooja room be in front of main door” solved your query.
