Hello. We were moving out of our rental accommodation and hired packers and movers. We realised that the society lift isn’t functional, so we wondered whether can movers shift furniture using stairs if lift is not working. I contacted around 5 to 7 packers and movers and all said the same thing - The charges will be extra for moving items up the stairs.

So like I said above, packers and movers people do move furniture through the stairs but the quote will increase. There are a lot of things involved here. The floor on which your flat is matters, as the effort will increase with each floor.
The time will also increase as going up and down, navigating through the stairs would be tricky. Another thing is that what kind of furniture is there matters. Furniture is usually heavy, but the size and shape of the furniture matter in determining the effort, time and complexity of the movement.
It is better that you talk to the packer and mover beforehand and discuss the price not to face any increase later on.
