Hey. If you are wondering whether can melamine cabinets be painted or not. So yes, melamine cabinets can be painted. You do need to follow a proper method for this, though. I have worked on melamine cabinets and can tell you exactly how to paint them with stepwise methods. First comes preparing the surface, which is basically the method involved in every painting process.

How to Paint Melamine Cabinets?

  1. So begin by preparing the surface by cleaning it well. You can wipe the surface with dish soap and water using a clean microfibre cloth. Another way to clean is using TSP.

  2. After you are done preparing, use a fine-grit sandpaper ranging from 80 to 120. The greater the grade, the finer the grit of the sandpaper. If melamine has a grain to it, sand along the grain in long, gentle strokes.

  3. Then, get a high adhesion primer; it usually comes in a spray can. Apply the paint by keeping 10 to 12 inches of distance from the surface. Use long and even strokes.

  4. You can apply a satin or semi-gloss paint. Apply an even and thin coat. Wait for it to dry and then apply a second coat.

  5. Let the cabinets dry completely.

I hope you now know the answer to can you paint melamine cabinets or not.
