As a tenant when I rented out a furnished apartment in Bangalore, I realised that there was so much furniture that was not required and was shrinking the room space. It was during this time that I too had this question in mind: can I remove furniture from a furnished apartment? So, the answer is No. I cannot arbitrarily remove the furniture as the furniture belongs to the landlord. So I communicated with him and mutually agreed to restore them elsewhere.

Can You Remove Furniture from a Furnished Apartment?

  1. No, without the landlord's permission, you cannot take furniture out of a furnished apartment.

  2. If you do this, your lease can be violated, which might lead to fines or even eviction.

  3. If the furniture doesn’t suit you, discuss it with your landlord. They may agree to store or remove certain pieces.

  4. To prevent disagreements later, always have agreements in writing.

In short, communication and consent are key before making any changes to a furnished property.
