My friend once asked me, can a tenant take electric connection in his name, and I told him no landlord can refuse the need for an electricity connection. However, there are a few things that the electricity supply authorities examine.

Can Tenant Apply for Electricity Meter?

The only thing the electricity supply company could ask for is the proof of the applicant living in the premises where the connection will be made. Besides, you should know some important documents that are required to apply for an electricity connection in India.

  1. New connection form 

  2. Passport size colour photographs

  3. Identity proof which may include any of the voter ID card/ Pan card/ passport/ government issued ID card.

  4. As a tenant, you are also required to provide the ownership proof of the applied address. This may include a registered sale deed/registered or notarized GPA/partition deed/registered or notarized release deed.

  5. You should also get an NOC from the owner
