The latest that I know in the real estate industry is the introduction of the Model Tenancy Act. There are many new laws which have found their place in the act. For rental arrangements, the act says landlords cannot refuse to provide basic utilities to the tenants. It also states that tenants can be charged double rent or four months rent from the tenants if they refuse to move out after the lease is over.
As far as pagdi systems are concerned, the Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs has clarified that the pagdi system is an informal arrangement and it is a different issue. However, we must wait and observe what steps are taken for pagdi system arrangement in the future.
