Q.

A poultry farm constructed in 1992 in my village has increased its maximum bird capacity to 12000. I complained to the Panchayati Raj department as per guidelines said farms need to be kept away from 500 meters. Still, the local administration refused to admit that and said it's only applicable to those farms constructed after 2000. What is the distance needed to be maintained for farms constructed in 1992 from the residential area and there is any guidelines issued by the govt?

In India, poultry farms must maintain a minimum distance of 500 meters from residential areas as per Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) guidelines. However, these rules typically apply to farms established after the year 2000. Since your village’s poultry farm was constructed in 1992, it may be exempt from this requirement unless state-specific regulations mandate otherwise. You should check state pollution control board norms for additional restrictions.

If environmental concerns persist, you can escalate the matter to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) or the State Pollution Control Board for review. I hope you found this helpful.
