The District Magistrate of Gautam Buddha Nagar, Medha Roopam, has strongly censured the development authorities of Noida, Greater Noida, and Yamuna Expressway for not submitting the fire safety inspection reports of high-rise residential condominiums, which is a mandatory requirement as per the disaster management rules. This matter was brought up during a meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Friday, and it has serious implications regarding the regulation and safety of residents in one of the fastest-growing areas of the region.
Roopam was disappointed to note that despite several directives issued in December and January, no development authority has submitted the reports regarding the inspection of condominiums to ensure that they are fire safety compliant. “Despite clear instructions in previous review meetings, none of the development authorities have furnished reports on inspections of high-rise residential societies,” she said.
Apart from the missing reports, the district magistrate also expressed her dissatisfaction with the absence of senior officials in the DDMA meeting. She reiterated that such platforms cannot be considered as mere administrative routine check-in sessions and that senior officials’ presence is required in future review meetings. The chief executive officers of all three development authorities have been asked for written explanations regarding non-compliance and absence in the meeting.
It has been noted by officials that the authorities received instructions in late 2025 and early 2026 to conduct immediate inspections of multi-storey residential buildings in the district to check fire safety readiness and take legal action against any defaults. The inspections are expected to check compliance with statutory fire safety measures such as working alarms, water pumps, sprinklers, and evacuation systems, which are essential for fire emergency management and prevention. However, no compliance report has been received yet.
The warning comes against the backdrop of growing public anxiety about fire safety in high-density urban areas, where the pace of construction and population growth has sometimes gotten ahead of enforcement. Fire departments in Noida and Greater Noida have, in recent years, conducted several audits of high-rise buildings and found fire safety systems to be damaged or not functioning, which can be disastrous in the event of an emergency.
Apart from ensuring fire safety standards, the DDMA has also asked departments to draw up a City Heat Wave Action Plan by March 20, 2026, conduct a thorough fire safety audit of industrial units, hospitals, schools, and malls, and make sure that the fire department is always on alert. The authorities were asked to submit their reports with photographs within a short time frame.
The directives from the district magistrate indicate a pressing need to improve disaster preparedness and accountability among development agencies, especially in rapidly growing residential areas where safety failures could prove disastrous.
