The Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) has issued a public advisory directing tenants and paying guests to vacate illegal accommodations, guesthouses, hotels, co-living facilities, and commercial spaces in Gurugram by June 30, 2026.
The targeted areas are the residential plots in DLF phases 1,2,3,4, and 5. DTCP has advised all occupants, tenants, and paying guests to verify independently their legal status of the property they are residing in. And, whenever possible, arrange for alternator accommodation before July to avoid an inconvenience arising from sealing or restoration measures.
The reason for the notice is that these establishments are operating in violation of zoning regulations, approved building plans, and development norms.
Amit Madholia, District town planner (enforcement), told TOI that the advisory became necessary after it was observed that many tenants, paying guests, and occupants were unaware of notices issued to property owners and operators regarding impending enforcement action.
Further, the authorities noted that the landlords were hiding the ongoing legal notices from their tenants. The advisory is giving the residents a chance to find new housing before sealing operations begin.
Property sealing operations are already underway as part of the broader state initiative to curb the unauthorized commercialization and restore the proper way to use land.
This impacts the hundreds of residents, as they are expected to face short-term rental disruptions as the government actively seals non-compliant premises.
The authority said, “Occupants are advised not to wait until the date of enforcement action and should proactively coordinate with their landlords or operators regarding the status of the premises.”
In addition, the department clarified that the notices have been issued and a reasonable opportunity was given. Thereby, the government would not be responsible for any loss, inconvenience, or disruption caused by the sealing of the premises.
