I’m from Chennai, I have Rented 3 shops to individuals for 23 years and they have being rent on time. Since Metro line is going come in my area, my building is going get damaged due to road expansion and metro line work. I have been renewing my lease agreement for 11 months for past 15-20 years. Now when I ask the Shop-keepers to vacant the property, they are asking 10 lacs as compensation to vacate each shop. I didn’t register the Rental agreement in Rent control act. I’m refusing to pay any compensation. How to proceed, I’m afraid going to courts because it takes years for solution. Pls guide for quick remedy.
