- Chandra Mahal
- Diwan-e-Khas
- Mubarak Mahal
- Maharani’s Palace/armoury
There are many more buildings, but these remain the main attractions.
Chandra Mahal
Has seven stories and has floors with different names like – Mukut Mandir, Chabi Niwas, Shri Niwas, Ranga Mandir, Pitam Niwas and Sukh Niwas. As the building is pretty tall, you get a very good view of the city and all the other buildings in the Palace complex. Inside the Chandra Mahal, you’ll find beautiful mirror work and detailed paintings on the walls. There is a museum on the ground floor which exhibits manuscripts, carpets and other items. The Shobha Niwas, has plenty of decorative tiles and mirror walls made of gold and mica as the name means hall of beauty. As this mahal was built for royalty, there is opulence everywhere.
Diwan-e-Khas
This building is found between the Armoury and the Diwan-i-Am (Sabha Niwas) art gallery. This building was once the private hall for the Maharaja. This hall has crystal chandeliers and 2, 1.6m tall silver vessels. These vessels were made from 14000 silver coins and are about 340kgs each! They are the largest of it’s kind and are in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Mubarak Mahal
As the name suggests, it is the welcome area or reception centre for the place. It dates back to the 19th century when it was built by Madho Singh II. This was constructed in the European architectural style combined with Islamic and Rajput styles too. It is now a museum that has many rich clothes and fabrics on display. The showstopper is a 1.2-meter wide cloth that weighs 250 kgs!
Maharani’s Palace
The Queen’s Palace (Maharani) was made for the queens in the royal family. As royalty lived here, the ceiling has frescoes made of gold! Now, it is turned into an armoury museum. Some of the best collections of weapons in India are found here. The ceremonial items that were used are elegantly engraved and inlaid.
