If you have ever needed to vacate a house, how do you start looking for the next house to live in? Do you have a place in mind, or do you ask for help while choosing a house to move to? Well, we at NoBroker also wondered what people think of before choosing a place to stay in, and this is what we found –
Things we covered for you
It’s All About the Money
The cost of a home is the most important factor for those looking at homes. They often set a budget first, and then start their search for a new home. From our survey and customer data we see that 84% of an individual’s decision is based on cost when it comes to choosing a new house to live in.
A Steady Water Supply
In India, about 200,000 people are dying every year due to inadequate access to safe water. Large cities like Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Delhi are running out of groundwater at an alarming rate. According to the Composite Water Management Index’ (CWMI) report, 40% of India’s population will have no access to drinking water by 2030!
This is why about 83% of people’s decision is based on a steady water supply before choosing a home. If there is no good water supply, or rainwater harvesting units in the building, it will mean having to depend on water tankers or going many days without proper supply.
Connectivity
As cities grow, so does traffic. Now, more people choose to use the local buses, trains and metros to get around the city as it is a cheaper and faster alternative. Hence, 59% of an individual’s decision is based on a home’s proximity to public transport. When commuting is easy, you save more and spend less time travelling and reduce your carbon footprint.
Safety and Security
If you’re living alone, or with your family, you always worry about safety. The locality you choose to live in has to be considered safe, as well as the housing society/apartment building/gated community that you’re looking to live in. People look for buildings with 24/7 security, CCTVs, proper visitor monitoring and management (by apps like NoBrokerHOOD). Therefore, people base 42% of their decision on safety before choosing a home.
Schools and Hospitals
About 19% of weightage is placed on a home’s proximity to schools and about 13% on its proximity to hospitals. When you have kids, sickly or aged people to care for, you need to ensure that a hospital is not too far away. For those families with young kids, they place more importance on staying next to good schools.
