Start With The Windows

Keep your windows open to allow some natural breeze to blow through the house. This also means you can’t have thick curtains blocking the breeze, have something light and airy so that air can come through freely. Have cotton curtains and use light colours for the best results.

Get Rid Of Heavy Of Winter Accessories

Apart from the heavy curtains you use during winters, it is also time to pack away all those other winter accessories like carpets, heavy blankets and throws. You can also put away your heaters and any other furniture that is crowding up your home. Make your space clutter-free, this will also enable good airflow.

Encourage Cross Ventilation

Cross ventilation is easy to set up, just make sure you open windows that are at opposite sides of your home. This means that cool air will flow through your home and push out the warm air. The best times to leave your windows open are between 5.00 to 8.00 am in the mornings and between 7.00 to 10.00 pm. The wind is pleasantly cool at these times.

Get A Curtain That Breathes

Bamboo curtains and straw curtains are a great investment to make. These are great as they provide shade, prevent direct sunlight from coming into your house and yet lets air come in. These are especially great for balconies and windows that allow direct sunlight into the house.

Stay Low

If you find the heat is getting unbearable at night, it’s time to sleep closer to the ground. Heat rises, so you’ll feel much cooler sleeping closer to the ground. You can move your mattress down or if you live in a house with many floors, sleep on the lowest floor.

Make Use Of Your Exhaust Fans

After cooking a meal and taking a shower, make sure to switch on your kitchen exhaust fans, and bathroom ones. This will help to pull out all the hot/moist air that is there and make your home feel instantly cooler.

Change The Way You Use Your Pedestal Fans

The best way to get cool air flowing through your home, without turning on the AC is by simply placing a bowl full of ice in front of your pedestal fan! This will blow chill air through your room that actually beats the air you will get from an AC. It also consumes much less electricity and will lower your electricity bill.
