Secret Cleaning Tips – Clean Faster and Efficiently

If you hate cleaning, you’re not alone. In a house, there are so many things that need to be cleaned and each of them needs to be cleaned differently. You would never clean your kitchen and bathroom the same way, they both need very different cleaning materials and very different methods of cleaning.

This might all seem tedious and confusing, so here are a few tips that will help you and make the cleaning process easier. These tips are from professionals and will help you cut down a lot of the time you spend cleaning, you will also get much better results.

Start From the Top

Always start cleaning the things that are on top before you get to the bottom. Start with the fans, lights, dust for cobwebs, then move to shelves, bookcases and cupboards, from here move to lower surfaces like tables and then the floor. This way the dust gets systematically cleaned off each surface and you don’t have to re-clean anything because of falling dust.

Have a Pattern

Apart from cleaning from top to bottom, you also need to have a pattern to clean in. Don’t just randomly dust things, either go from left to right or right to left so that you don’t miss a single spot while cleaning. You can even create a pattern of your own, as long as it is systamatic and nothing is left out.

Carry a Caddy

Cleaning is a tiring task, to make it a little easier it is a good idea to make yourself a little cleaning caddy. This caddy should contain things you need like gloves, brushes, and other cleaning materials. This way you won’t have to keep walking around your house looking for what you need.

Read the Labels

This is one thing that most of us don’t do. We tend to buy cleaning materials and use them just like we saw in the advertisements; this is a waste of time and product. If you read any label, you can see what is made up of and ALSO how to use it effectively. For example, any product that says disinfectant will probably need to rest for 5-10 minutes before you wipe it off. This is the only way that your cleaning products can do their job right.

Soak More, Scrub Less

When you are tackling extra tough grease in the kitchen or a nasty stain on your clothes, don’t waste your time on scrubbing. The best thing to do is use a product on the spot and let it soak for a long time. The longer that the product is allowed to soak in, the less scrubbing is required and the easier it is to get the item clean. As a practice, you can put the dishes to soak, leave grease remover on the stove/oven, soak the toilet bowls in the bathroom with the cleaner; then start dusting. By the time you get back to the kitchen or bathroom, the product would have done half the work for you.

First Dry Clean, Then Wet Clean

It may seem tempting to just wash down things, but in order to get the best results, you need to first clean it when it is dry and then use water/cleaning liquids to clean it thoroughly. When you leave dust, hair, fur etc. on the floor when you’re cleaning, you’ll end up dirtying your mopping water and then just cleaning your home with dirty water. You won’t achieve the results you deserve.

Start With The Cleanest First When Wet Cleaning

Like you dust from top to bottom when you are dry cleaning, it is only logical that you start from cleanest to dirtiest when you are wet cleaning. This way you are not taking the dirt and spreading it onto cleaner surfaces. A perfect example would be the bathroom. Here, you clean the tiles on the walls, then the floors and last the commode.

Sweep/vacuum In and Out of Rooms

When you’re sweeping and or vacuuming, ensure to do so while entering and exiting the room. This way, the passages that connect your room will get extra attention. It is normally these high traffic areas that collect the most dirt and experience the most footfall. When these areas are clean, you will also end up taking less dirt into the room thus keeping the whole house relatively cleaner.

Eye-Level Test

This is a test that most professional cleaners use to check that they cleaned everything, and I mean everything. The eye-level test is simple, it just means getting on the same level as what you cleaned, like for e.g. the kitchen counter. When you’re on the same level you’ll be able to spot things under the stove, under shelves, under cupboards and so on.
